Scope and Contents

This collection contains the personal documents belonging to Lorents Osa and his second wife, Christine Huglen. Such personal documents include calendars from Norway, correspondence from relatives in Norway, yearbooks from Oakville Union High School, photographs, and maps. Among Christine’s personal items, there is her high school diploma from the year 1915, as well as a memorial print in honor of her mother’s passing.

Biographical / Historical

Lorents Osa was born in Norway in 1887. He immigrated to the United States in about 1909 when he was 22 years old. He worked his way across the country until he arrived in Seattle, and later attended Pacific Lutheran Academy, where he graduated in 1917 at the age of 30. He also received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and served in the First World War. During the 1920’s, he was a teacher at Oakville Union High School. In 1952, he began his membership at Trinity Lutheran Church. Though the collection reveals nothing about his marriage to his first wife, he married his second wife, Christine Huglen, in 1960 and by the time he was 96, they had been married for 23 years.
