Johan Olofsson (Jan Olsson) was born in 1613 or 1620 (the author listed both dates). Olofsson was a miner on the Saxan farm and was a juror and county judge until 1679. He was a member of parliament for several terms. He killed Björn Mattsson after an argument in August 1697 and fled to Norway. After reaching a settlement with the Mattson family, he returned to the Saxan farm in December 1697. He was sentenced to death for the murder but was pardoned due to his age. He died in 1713. He had married Karin (last name unknown) with whom he had four children: Olof, Maria, Johan, and Katarina.
