John August Johnson was born on January 19, 1879 in Sweden. He was ordained a deacon at the age of 24. When he was in Winnipeg he fell in love with a lady named Ellen. On July 16, 1905, he arrived in Seattle and there was a lot of competition when he arrived for jobs. Most of the jobs that John August Johnson was able to get were temporary contruction jobs. On August 21, 1907, Johnson and Ellen Matilda Karlbom who was also born in Sweden were married. Ellen was born on May 7, 1880. In 1929, Johnson and his family too a trip to Europe which he goes into detail about in the memoranda.
